17. Mellangården (The middle farm)
Norrby Mellangård, one of the village’s original farms, is located on the hill at the bottom of the curve. The farm has been passed down through generations. Anna Brita Mattsson ran the farm in the 19th century. Anna Brita was the widow of the shipowner and sea captain Matts Mattsson. He commanded the brig ANNA af Häverö before this Norrby ship was laid up for good. Matts Mattsson died in a tragic accident when the schooner Maria Charlotta went down with man and all in a storm on Whitsunday 1890. At the beginning of the 20th century, his daughter Anna married Nathanael Wedberg from Veda. Nathanael worked as a foreman and steward at Norrby Gård. He died in 1908, his wife Anna, who was 29 years old at the time, continued to run the farm together with her mother. Anna also ran a boarding house on the farm for a large number of years. Since then, Mellangården has been called ’Wedberg’s’

The telephone arrives in Norrby Mellangård during the 1920s. The wife of ’Wedbergs’ cycles home to her neighbors to tell them that they have a call waiting. The telephone exchange is located in Trästa, and only 95 subscribers are connected to the station. The telephone revolutionizes communication in the village. Now people can quickly reach family, friends and authorities without having to travel. After almost 100 years of telephony, the landline network is tragically torn down in September 2023. Today, the villagers have to rely on mobile phones.
